Why is worship "experience" and "relevant" biblical teaching dangerous or even false?

As Christianity grows across the globe, church leaders find it more beneficial to invite people to what they consider an "experience" with "relevant and engaging" teaching instead of a "worship service" that include preaching of the gospel. Are those words just merely semantics to draw a crowd, or is there a deeper darker meaning behind it? I want to explore this topic today, using John 8:31 as a foundational passage.

Introduction

As Christianity grows across the globe, church leaders find it more beneficial to invite people to what they consider an "experience" with "relevant and engaging" teaching instead of a "worship service" that include preaching of the gospel. Are those words just merely semantics to draw a crowd, or is there a deeper darker meaning behind it? I want to explore this topic today, using John 8:31 as a foundational passage.

What does God say?

John 8:31–32 LEB
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
verse 31: To continue (remain/abide) in His word is the mark of a true disciple
The Gospel according to John c. The Children of Abraham (8:31–59)

In short, perseverance is the mark of true faith, of real disciples. A genuine believer remains in Jesus’ ‘word’ (logos), his teaching (cf. notes on 1:1): i.e. such a person obeys it, seeks to understand it better, and finds it more precious, more controlling, precisely when other forces flatly oppose it. It is the one who continues in the teaching who has both the Father and the Son (2 Jn. 9; cf. Heb. 3:14; Rev. 2:26).

verse 32: One who continues in His word will know the truth, intellectually and be morally committed to it. The power of truth revealed in and by Jesus is that it sets one free from slavery to sin (v. 34)

Why is this important for us to know?

God is eternal, faithful, and true; therefore, His message is as well.
The Holy Spirit guides us into all the truth (Jn 16:13).
Truth is not confirmed by feelings or emotions (idea of “experience”) but by faith. (2 Thess 2:13)
To make His message relevant is seeking to please men not Christ. (Gal 1:10)

Conclusion

Therefore, to promote “experience” and “relevancy” are dangerous proposals and borderline false because it calls into question one’s motives. Are you looking to grow your ministry through our efforts or the kingdom of God being led by the Spirit of truth? Is the gospel of Jesus Christ enough or does God need your help? Who is important to you, God or man?
